Trustees of the Newton Public Library District met July 21, 2025 at 5:00 P.M. Present were Travis Farley, Emily Carroll, Jennifer Hinterscher, Ilene Woods, Amanda Lessley and Director Jacque Cowger.
President Farley called the meeting to order.
The Budget and Appropriation Hearing opened at 5:00 P.M.
The June fiscal year-end financial report was reviewed. Bills were presented. Trustee Woods made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Trustee Carroll, motion passed.
Director’s Report
Circulation for June 3,562. Money collected from fines, faxes, copier, book sales, cards, and miscellaneous was $360.79. Twelve new cards were issued. The patron door count for the month of June was 1,801.
Old Business
Trustee Hinterscher gave an update on the museum.
There were approximately 100 in attendance at the Summer Pool Party
President Farley made a motion to accept the quote provided by Effingham Signs & Graphics to remove museum signage from the library, seconded by Trustee Lessley, motion passed.
New Business
The Budget and Appropriation Hearing closed at 5:30 P.M. No patrons were in attendance.
Ordinance No 25-02 Annual Budget and Appropriation Ordinance for the Fiscal Year Beginning the First Day of July 2025 and ending the 3oth day of June 2026 was reviewed. Trustee Woods made a motion to adopt Ordinance 25-02, seconded by Trustee Carroll, motion passed.
Building & Maintenance Ordinance 25-03 was reviewed. Trustee Woods made a motion to adopt Ordinance 25-03, seconded by Trustee Carroll, motion passed.
The Trustees tabled the decision to accept a quote to repair the windows upstairs.
There will be a photography show held at the library during the Fall Festival. Registration begins August 25-30th. Photos will be on display from September 2nd -12th during which time the public may cote for their favorite photo.
Director Cowger announced the receipt of Orell Farley Trust distribution.
The next board meeting is August 18, 2025 at 5 p.m.
