Trustees of the Newton Public Library District met December 16, 2024 at 5:00 P.M. Present were Travis Farley, Emily Carroll, Ilene Woods, Jeanette Hickox, Amanda Lessley, Peter Pasero & Jennifer Hinterscher and Director Jacque Holsapple. Also in attendance was Anthea Zumbahlen.
President Farley called the regular meeting to order.
Minutes of the November meeting were reviewed and will stand as presented.
The November financial report was reviewed. Bills were presented. Trustee Woods made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Trustee Lessley, motion passed.
Director’s Report
Circulation for November was 2,523. Money collected from fines, faxes, copier, book sales, cards, and miscellaneous was $400.55. Ten new cards were issued. The patron door count for the month of November was 1,139.
Director Holsapple found someone to do snow removal this winter season.
The library ahs renewed all 47 junior resident cards for one year.
Old Business
The library participated in the annual Christmas on the Square events on Saturday December 14 as scheduled, despite the original date being postponed to Sunday December 15 due to the weather. The story walk still continues to be displayed around the square.
New Business
The board toured the library and museum and discussed closure of the museum. President Farley made a motion to: 1) close the Jasper County Museum on December 31, 2024, 2) authorize the library’s director to execute the necessary documents to transfer ownership of the museum[‘s property to the Newton-Jasper County IL Museum Inc. and 3) budget up to $10,000.00 to pay for the movement of museum property from the library’s building to the new location with an expiration date of June 30, 2025. This was seconded by Trustee Hickox, motion passed. Trustee Hinterscher recused herself from the discussion and abstained from voting. After the vote, Anthea Zumbahlen left the meeting.
Trustee Hickox made a motion to purchase a $107,000 twelve month CD from Peoples State Bank with funds from the Special Reserve account, seconded by Trustee Lessley, motion passed.
Starting January 3, 2025, the library is accepting quilt blocks that will be sewn into a lap size quilt to be presented to a Veteran of Jasper County at the Veterans Day Program November 11, 2025.
Per the Per Capita Grant Requirement, the board reviewed and discussed Chapter 10, 11, 12, & 13 (Programming, Youth/Young Adult Services, Technology, Marketing, Promotion, and Collaboration) from Serving Our Public 4.0 standards for Illinois Public Libraries.
Due to the Martin Luther King Holiday, a motion was made by President Farley to move the January 20, 2025 scheduled library board meeting to Monday January 27, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. and seconded by Trustee Carroll, motion passed.
The next board meeting is Monday January 27, 2025, at 5 p.m.
