Trustees of the Newton Public Library District met April 21, 2025 at 5:00 P.M. Present were Travis Farley, Emily Carroll, Peter Pasero, Jeanette Hickox, Jennifer Hinterscher and Director Jacque Cowger.
President Farley called the regular meeting to order.
Minutes of the March meeting were reviewed and will stand as presented.
The March financial report was reviewed. Bills were presented. President Farley made amotion to pay the bills, seconded by Trustee Pasero, motion passed.
Director’s Report
Circulation for March was 2,816. Money collected from fines, faxes, copier, book sales, cards, and miscellaneous was $837.99. Seven new cards were issued. The patron door count for the month of March was 1,366.
Director Cowger met with Lazerware and discussed the library’s website maintenance regarding ADA compliance.
Old Business
Jennifer Hinterscher provided an update regarding the museum.
There will be a book sale the week of Monday April 28th thru Saturday May 3rd in the meeting room at the library. The library is accepting donations for the book sale during regular business hours and received several book donations.
New Business
The Trustees discussed a course of action to seek return of unreturned technology items. A plan was created to follow-up with patrons.
The Trustees tabled the Donation Request to the Library pending review of the loan agreement.
President Farley made a motion to approve the estimate from McCoy’s Heating & Air Conditioning to purchase a new furnace for the museum section of the library, seconded by Trustee Pasero, motion carried.
The Trustees each completed the required Sexual harassment training developed by the State of Illinois.
The library will be conducting the annual Summer Reading Program. Registration for the summer reading program begins Monday May 19th and will end on Tuesday June 3rd.
the summer library shows will be held on Tuesdays at 10:30 am starting June 10th and concluding on July 8 at the West End Event Center, with the exception of Dinosaur Encounters to be held on Monday June 2 at 10:00am. A different program will be held each week. In addition to the shows, there will be story time held each Thursday at 10:30 am beginning June 5th thru July 31st. The library will also hold Painting with Tia on Wednesday June 11th from 2-3:30 pm for 12-16 year olds and Wednesday June 18th for 7-11 year old.
The local schools have scheduled some end of year field trips to tour the library in the month of May.
The Trustees reviewed and discussed the library’s disaster plan. Trustee Farley made a motion to adopt the Disaster Plan, seconded by Trustee Hickox, motion carried.
The next board meeting is Monday May 19, 2025 at 5 p.m.
