August Minutes 2025

Trustees of the Newton Public Library District met August 18, 2025 at 5:00 P.M. Present were Travis Farley, Emily Carroll, Jennifer Hinterscher, Ilene Woods, Pete Pasero and Director Jacque Cowger.

President Farley called the meeting to order.

Minutes of the July meeting were reviewed and will stand as presented.

The July financial report was reviewed. Bills were presented. Trustee Woods made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Trustee Carroll, motion passed.

Director’s Report

Circulation for July was 3,487. Money collected from fines, faxes, copier, book sales, cards, and miscellaneous was $584.00 Seven new cards were issued. The patron door count for the month of July was 1,541.

Lazerware notified the library that they will need to update their licensing for their Microsoft operating system as the current operating system is nearing its end of life and will no longer be supported by Microsoft. The library will need to purchase the licensing and Lazerware will update the computers per their service agreement.

Old Business

Trustee Hinterscher gave an update on the museum.

The Trustees discussed the quotes provided to repair the upstairs windows. Trustee Hinterscher made a motion to accept the quote for project#25259 from Akra Builders, seconded by President Farley, motion passed.

New Business

Levy Ordinance No 25-04 for the Fiscal Year Beginning the First Day of July 2025 and ending the 30th day of June 2026 was reviewed. President Farley made amotion to adopt Ordinance 25-04, seconded by Trustee Pasero, motion passed.

The Trustee reviewed the quotes to repair the cracks in the stucco walls. Trustee Woods made a motion to accept the quote for project#25260, seconded by Trustee Carroll, motion passed.

The Mango & Little Pim Language subscription is up for renewal. Usage and promotion of the product was discussed. Trustee Woods made a motion to renew the subscription for one year, seconded by President Farley, motion passed.

The Secretary’s Minutes were reviewed for IPLAR. Director Cowger will be submitting this report this month.

There will be a photography show held at the library during the Fall Festival. Registration begins august 25th-30th. Photos will be on display from September 2nd -12th during which time the public may voter for their favorite photo.

Story time will resume in September on Thursdays at 10:30.
