Trustees of the Newton Public Library District met June 16, 2025 at 5:00 P.M. Present were Travis Farley, Pete Pasero, Emily
Carroll, Jennifer Hinterscher, llene Woods, Jeanette Hickox, Amanda Lessley and Director Jacque Cowger.
President Farley called the meeting to order.
Minutes of the May meeting were reviewed and will stand as presented.
The May financial report was reviewed. Bills were presented. Trustee Lessley made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by
President Farley, motion passed.
Director’s Report
Circulation for May was 2,741. Money collected from fines, faxes, copier, book sales, cards, and miscellaneous was $434.49.
Thirteen new cards were issued. The patron door count for the month of May was 1,541.
Director Cowger mentioned that the library’s air conditioner was not working efficiently. McCoy’s Heating & Air were called and
were able to repair the unit and replace air filters.
Old Business
The Oath of Office for Elected Trustees was administered to Jeanette Hickox.
Trustee Hinterscher gave an update on the museum.
The Summer Reading programs have started. The library has 174 signed up for the program. The summer program at the West
End Event Center, as well as Story Time at the library, Painting with Tia and Dungeons and Dragons sessions have had high levels
of participation. The library has engaged several guest readers for the story time.
New Business
The Summer Pool Party will be held on Friday July 11 from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at the Newton Aquatic Center
The Trustees tabled the decision to accept the quote from Double D Signs, Inc to remove museum signage from the library.
The board discussed employee compensation for the next fiscal year. Trustee Woods made a motion to update employee
compensation for the next fiscal year, seconded by Trustee Hickox, motion passed
The next board meeting is July 21, 2025 at 5 p.m.
