Trustees of the Newton Public Library District met March 17, 2025 at 5:00 P.M. Present were Emily Carroll, Ilene Woods, Amanda Lessley, Peter Pasero, Jeanette Hickox and Director Jacque Cowger. Also present were guests Tina Crain Roth, Sarah Diel Kinkade and Steve Prentice.
Vice President Pasero called the regular meeting to order.
The board hear public comments from steven Prentice regarding the circulation policy for the electronic devices that the library has on hand to lend to patrons.
Minutes of the February meeting were reviewed and will stand as presented.
The February financial report was reviewed. Bills were presented. Trustee Woods made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Trustee Carroll, motion passed.
Director’s Report
Circulation for February was 2,614. Money collected from fines, faxes, copier, book sales, cards, and miscellaneous was $798.25. Nine new cards were issued. The patron door count for the month of February was 1,196.
Director Cowger informed the board that Judy McClure will be adding the windo perforation to her office soon and provided the trustees with examples of what will be added to the windows.
Old Business
No update on the museum was provided.
Director Cowger has provided examples of some strategic plans for the trustee’s review. We will need to create an advisory group and start updating the plan.
There was an author book signing at the library on Saturday March 8 from 10:30am to 1pm. Donna (Ensign) Woods had copies of her book “Feathers in the Wind” available to sign and purchase. It was well attended.
New Business
Tina Crain Roth and Sarah Diel Kinkade presented a request to house the Pasadena flag that was presented to the Newton marching Eagles in 1983 in the library. An agreement will be drafted and a final vote will be taken at the next board meeting.
Trustee Hickox made a motion to purchase a $234,966.46 eleven month CD from Peoples State Bank with funds from the Special Reserve account, seconded by Trustee Woods, motion passed.
The trustees completed the Statement of Economic Interest.
Director Cowger said that ESS Clean came to clean the carpets in the library.
There will be a book sale the week of Monday April 28th thru Saturday May 3rd in the meeting room at the library. The library is accepting donations for the book sale during regular business hours.
The next board meeting is Monday April 21, 2025 at 5 p.m.
