Trustees of the Newton Public Library District met November 18, 2024 at 5:00 P.M. Present were Travis Farley, Emily Carroll, Ilene Woods, Jeanette Hickox, Amanda Lessley, & Jennifer Hinterscher and Director Jacque Holsapple.
President Farley called the regular meeting to order.
Minutes of the October meeting were reviewed and will stand as presented.
The October financial report was reviewed. Bills were presented. Trustee Woods made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Trustee Carroll, motion passed.
Director’s Report
Circulation for October was 2,743. Money collected from fines, faxes, copier, book sales, cards, and miscellaneous was $551.89. Eleven new cards were issued. The patron door count for the month of October was 1,256.
Director Holsapple asked for recommendations for finding someone to do snow removal this winter season.
The library is working to update items to comply with the IHLS automated delivery system.
Old Business
Jennifer Hinterscher provided an update regarding the Jasper County Museum. The Trustees discussed closure of the museum. A vote to close the museum will be held at the next meeting.
Trustee Woods made a motion to renew Juvenile Non-Resident Cards funded by JCCU#1 at no additional cost, seconded by Trustee Lessley, motion passed.
Lawrence Pilman was awarded the Patriotic Friendship quilt at the Veteran’s Day Program.
New Business
The board tabled the discussion to renew the Bank CD until December.
Trustee Lessley made a motion to have Barlow Lock & Security conduct an annual inspection of all of the Library alarms, seconded by Trustee Hinterscher, motion passed.
The library will participate in the annual Christmas on the Square events on December 14. There will be story time with Mrs. Claus at 11:00 am. The kids can prepare a Christmas craft from 3:30 – 5:30 that afternoon. The month of December there will be a story walk around the square.
Per the Per Capita Grant Requirement. the board reviewed and discussed Chapter 7,8,9 (Collection Management, System Member Responsibilities and Resource Sharing, Public Services: Reference and Reader’s Advisory Services) from Serving Our Public 4.0 standards for Illinois Public Libraries.
The Next board meeting is December 16, 2024 at 5 p.m.
