October Minutes 2024

Trustees of the Newton Public Library District met October 21, 2024 at 5:00 P.M.  Present were Travis Farley, Emily Carroll, Ilene Woods, Jeanette Hickox, Amanda Lessley, & Pete Pasero and Director Jacque Holsapple.

President Farley called the regular meeting to order.

Minutes of the September meeting were reviewed and will stand as presented.

The September financial report was reviewed.  Bills were presented.  Trustee Lessley made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Trustee Woods, motion passed.

Director’s Report

Circulation for September was 2,607.  Money collected from fines, faxes, copier, book sales, cards, and miscellaneous was $210.40.  Eight new cards were issued.  The patron door count for the month of September was 1,286.

Twelve participants have signed up for English Second Language course to be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 4-7 pm.

Director Holsapple applied for and received the Apex Clean Energy Grant.

The 6th annual library crawl is currently taking place this month.  The library has passports available should patrons want to participate in the program.  So far the library has entertained 20 visitors from this event this month.

Director Holsapple asked for recommendations for finding someone to do snow removal this winter season.

Old Business

Jennifer Hinterscher was not present, but did provide a written update regarding the Jasper County Museum.

The library participated in the Scare on the Square events on Saturday and reported a good turnout.

New Business

The board tabled the discussion on Juvenile Non Resident School Cards until November.

The Illinois Heartland Library System is hosting a Mental Health First Aid class on December 6 from 9-4.  The registration cost is $20/per person.  Trustee Woods made the motion to send up to 2 employees to this event, seconded by Trustee Lessley, motion passed.

The library will hold a Family Reading Night and story time the evening of November 21 from 6-7.  There will be a story and a scavenger hunt.

The library employees will be presenting the Patriotic Friendship Quilt at the Veteran’s day

Per the Per Capita Grant Requirement, the board reviewed and discussed Chapter 4, 5, 6 (Access, Building Infrastructure and Maintenance, & Safety) from Serving Our Public 4.0 standards for Illinois Public Libraries.

The next board meeting is November 18, 2024 at 5 p.m.
