July Minutes 2023

 

Trustees of the Newton Public Library District met July 17, 2023 at 5:00 P.M.  Present was Travis Farley, Pete Pasero, Emily Carroll, Ilene Woods, Jennifer Hinterscher and Director Jacque Holsapple.

President Farley called the meeting to order.

Minutes of the June meeting were reviewed and will stand as presented.

the financial report was reviewed.  Bills were presented.  June 30 served as the end of the library’s fiscal year.  President Farley made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Trustee Woods, motion passed.

Director’s Report

Circulation for June was 3,810.  Money collected from fines, faxes, copier, book sales, cards, and miscellaneous was $616.82.  Thirteen new cards were issued.  The patron door count for the month of June was 1,840.

Old Business 

The summer library program concluded on July 14.  Approximately 120 people attended the Summer Pool Party.  The meet and greet with author S.E. Darke was well attended and the author was able to conduct some book sales.

New Business

The Budget and Appropriation Hearing opened at 5:30 P.M.  The Ordinance Hearing closed at 5:35 P.M.  No patrons were in attendance.  Ordinance No 23-02 Annual Budget and Appropriation Ordinance for the Fiscal Year Beginning the First Day of July 2023 and ending the 30th day of June 2024 was reviewed.  Trustee Woods made a motion to adopt Ordinance 23-02, seconded by Trustee Hinterscher, motion passed. 

Building Ordinance 23-03 was reviewed.  President Farley made a motion to adopt Ordinance 23-03, seconded by Trustee Woods, motion passed.

The proof was reviewed for the JCCU #1 Non-Resident cards.

The board reviewed the policy for registration requirements and borrowing privileges and recommended no changes be made.

There will be a Quilt and Craft Show at the Library on Saturday, September 9, 2023 (Fall Festival).  Items will be on display at the library starting September 1st through September 15th. Voting will begin on August 28 and end at 1:00 p.m. on September 9.  

the library received 90 quilt blocks for the Friendship Quilt.  These will be compiled and the quilt will be on display during the Fall Festival.

There will be a Stuffed Animal Sleepover at the library on Wednesday July 26.

There will be a 5th Tuesday Jam on Tuesday, August 29 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.  Patrons are encouraged to bring their acoustic stringed instruments and jam.

Director Holsapple is working to complete items for the Annual IPLAR report.

Decennial Committee Meeting

July 17, 2023

The Newton Public Library District’s Decennial Committee met on July 17, 2023 at the Newton Public Library located at 100 S Van Buren St, Newton, IL.  The following committee members were in attendance in person:

Ilene Woods

Amanda Lessley

Jacque Holsapple

The meeting was called to order at 6:10 by Chairperson Farley immediately following the library’s July 17, 2023 Board of Trustees Meeting.

Minutes of the June meeting were reviewed.  Jennifer Hinterscher made a motion to approve the June minutes and Pete Pasero seconded, motion passed.

The Committee reviewed the following policies in detail regarding any changes:

  1. Levy Ordinance
  2. Building and Maintenance Ordinance
  3. Budget and Appropriations Ordinance
  4. Public Comment Policy

Outside of committee members, there were no other residents in attendance.
