May Minutes 2023

 

Trustees of the Newton Public Library District met May 15, 2023 at 5:00 P.M.  Present was Travis Farley, Pete Pasero, Emily Carroll, Amanda Lessley, Jennifer Hinterscher, and Director Jacque Holsapple.

The Oat of Office for Elected Trustees was administered to Amanda Lessley, Jennifer Hinterscher & Pete Pasero.

The Officer Election was conducted.

Trustee Pasero made a motion to nominate Trustee Farley as President seconded by Trustee Hinterscher. Motion passed.

President Farley made a motion to nominate Trustee Pasero as Vice President seconded by Trustee Lessley.  Motion passed.

President Farley made a motion to nominate Trustee Carroll as Secretary seconded by Trustee Hinterscher. Motion passed.

President Farley made a motion to nominate Ilene Woods as Treasurer, seconded by Trustee Carroll.  Motion passed.

With the election of a new Treasurer, President Farley made the motion to remove Donna Connor and replace her with Ilene Woods as authorized signer on all People State Bank deposit accounts, seconded by Trustee Carroll. Motion passed.  After this action, Director Jacque Holsapple, Treasurer Ilene Woods, and Kara Weber, library’s accountant, will be authorized signers on all deposit accounts at People State Bank.  

President Farley called the meeting to order.

Minutes of the April meeting were reviewed and will stand as presented.

The financial report was reviewed.  Bills were presented.  President Farley made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Trustee Carroll, motion passed.

Director’s Report

Circulation for April was 2,616.  Money collected from fines, faxes, copier, book sales, cards, and miscellaneous was $532.25.  Six new cards were issued.

Jacque expressed the need to purchase a Door Annunciator System to aid in counting the number of patrons entering the library.  This information is used for data that is included in required annual reporting.  President Farley made a motion to purchase the door Annunciator System, seconded by Trustee Pasero, motion passed.  

Mrs. Guzman is including a write-up on the library in the next Fly Together issue that is mailed to residents of Jasper County.

The Gardening and Horticulture series was cancelled.  The teacher found a new position and was unable to fulfill the obligation.

Several classes of area school children toured the library.  Estimated 40-50 children came through the tours.  The library staff read to approximately 80 children at the park for their end of school activities.

Old Business

Book sale generate $1,390.00 in additional funds.

There will be a Songwriter Workshop scheduled for Saturday, May 20 at the library.

New Business

President Farley made a motion to pass Meeting Ordinance No. 2023-01, seconded by Trustee Pasero, motion passed.

Trustee Carroll made a motion to pass the Holiday Schedule for 2023/2024, seconded by Trustee Pasero, motion passed.

A review of the Non Resident Member Card Fee was discussed.  Trustee Lessley made a motion to set the Non Resident Member Card Fee at $90.00, seconded by President Farley, motion passed.

A review of the library savings account was discussed.  President Farley made a motion to transfer $8,920.10 from the General Fund to the Special Reserve account, seconded by Trustee Carroll, motion passed.

The Trustees reviewed the Library By-Laws.  Trustee Carroll made a motion to adopt the By-Laws and Trustee Pasero seconded, motion passed.

Director Jacque Holsapple discussed the need for additional help at the library during the summer due to increased usage of the library and coverage as the result of the Summer Reading Program.  President Farley made a motion to hire a seasonal/summer employee, seconded by Jennifer Hinterscher, motion passed.

The Review and Update on Building Insurance was tabled to the June meeting.

Jacque discussed the amount of E-rates the library will receive during the year.

There will be summer Ukulele lessons held at the library.

The next meeting is June 19, 2023.

Decennial Committee Meeting

May 15, 2023

The Newton Public Library District’s Decennial Committee met on May 15, 2023 at the Newton Public Library located at 100 S. Van Buren St, Newton, IL.  The following committee members were in attendance in person:

The meeting was called to order at 6:15 pm, immediately following the library’s May 15, 2023 Board of Trustees Meeting.

A motion was made by Jennifer Hinterscher to elect Travis Farley as Committee Chairperson, seconded by Pete Pasero, motion passed.

Outside of committee members, there were no other residents in attendnance.
